WHERE ARE YOU

WHERE ARE YOU
I heard your voice, I didn’t have no choice
To keep my mind alive
You know it’s wrong, the graveyard’s gone
And we’re all left outside
I know your mind, I had to make a sign
To keep away bad luck
It’s your belief Time was the thief
And our time’s all used up

Where, where are you today?
What, what games shall you play?
Can, can you take the pain away, away, away?

I saw your key, couldn’t believe I did
I kept it to myself
Now I got to run, can’t leave undone
The things we need for help
I lost your face, erased no trace
From each and every sin
You pulled the blind on ever trying
To let the waters in

Where, where are you today?
What, what games shall you play?
Can, can you take the pain away, away, away?

I was not tired, I did not sleep
I walked out to the edge
Now the dreams and rhymes in future times
Are as the prophet said
I control the light, it’s second sight
I breathe the icy air
And climbing up I try to touch
The sun’s sweet heated glare

Where, where are you today?
What, what games shall you play?
Can, can you take the pain away, away, away?

Where, where are you today?
What, what games shall you play?
Can, can you take the pain away, away, away?

Fun Facts:

  • Where Are You was originally written in Marc’s tiny bedroom, which was full of broken electronics and junk, when he lived in Countess Wear during the early days of Alien Heat.
  • Marc created a lot of the early parts and main chord structures for this song, including the keyboard parts that follow the choruses.
  • Alien Heat never really did much with this song, which was a great shame as it rocks!
  • It is in the key of Am and the tempo is 162 BPM.
  • It was a real favourite among George’s students when he used it to teach English in his TEFL classes.
  • During a rainy afternoon in 2002 when there was no decent recording gear available, George made a hasty recording of this song on the 4-track so Emma could hear it with a view to performing it with Clonk.
  • She was not impressed by it at all.
  • You can hear George’s solo version on Dark Company’s ‘Out-Takes and Blorts’ page.
  • During the days of Dark Company’s first manifestation, Jeff created the driving rhythmic bassline.
  • The entire instrumental section after the third verse was created in one glorious moment of inspired jamming.
