WONDERLUST

WONDERLUST
Wandered down a hard road
Just to see where it would go
Came upon a bad man
Living in a sad land
I listened as he whispered
How he hadn’t prospered
Waited while he mumbled
About his daily fear

Struggled up a steep hill
Where the sky looked so ill
Bird inside a white cage
Said the world was my stage
I listened as he spoke low
Saying with him it wasn’t so
Then waited while he sang there
About his daily fear

Is it any wonder
Deafened by the thunder
Blinded by the bright light
From stars without number
Break free, breaking free
You’ll do it you’ll see
Break free, breaking free
First for you then for me

Slipped into a dark place
Thought I’d buy a new face
Found a dark-eyed lady
Said she couldn’t save me
I listened as she rambled
About how it’s wrong to gamble
Then waited while she shouted
About her daily fear

Drove on down a freeway
Thought at the end I could stay
Read out on a roadsign
I was on the right line.
Watched it as it hung there
Seeming not to really care
Waited while it added words
About its daily fear

Is it any wonder
Deafened by the thunder
Blinded by the bright light
From stars without number
Break free, breaking free
You’ll do it you’ll see
Break free, breaking free
First for you then for me
