DAMAGED

DAMAGED
Torn and touched I like as much
As I think I can carefully carry
To take the strain of the days that drain
I get in touch with White Line Sally

Told and sold the market boys
Whispered that I was needed
Given certain facts hidden behind their backs
I said “Sally, was it something she did?”

And I might even feed the needless greed
That leaves me for the night
And I might even run to the nameless sun
That burns me with its light
I might, I might, I might

Caught and bought I cannot think
Of why they should make me worry
Of what use, what’s your excuse
To make medicines that make me hurry

Well God and his Son said “You can be as one
With the Cosmos and Creator.”
So I said to him to deal me in
Then I’d be a mover and a shaker

And I might even feed the needless greed
That leaves me for the night
And I might even run to the nameless sun
That burns me with its light
I might, I might, I might

And I might even feed the needless greed
That leaves me for the night
And I might even run to the nameless sun
That burns me with its light
I might, I might, I might, I might

Tired and wired, I’m strung right out
The fuse burn when replacing
Too tall the wall there over which
Towards Heaven I am now facing

Torn and touched I like as much
As I think I can carefully carry
To take the strain of the days that drain
I get in touch with White Line Sally

And I might even feed the needless greed
That leaves me for the night
And I might even run to the nameless sun
That burns me with its light
I might, I might, I might, I might
I might

Fun Facts:

  • This is a song in the key of Bm and has a 6/8 feel.
  • It was created around the same time as the song Venturi on Dark Company’s Mind Dance album.
  • Due to the vocal melody being rather tricky, it was not developed at the same rate as Venturi and ended up being recorded somewhat later.
  • We’ve always loved the ‘God and his Son’ verse, surely one of Pete’s finest.
  • This is a song about addiction to amphetamine, or speed, and the time it takes and the situations faced to keep that particular need satisfied.
