SIMPLE LOVE

Simple Love by Dark Company, from the album Can of Worms.

SIMPLE LOVE
Are we love or are we life
Are we sharp or do we bite like a knife

I am a question, someone you don’t really know
I am an island, a place that you know you can go

Are we quick or are we dead
Are we words or can’t you hear what we said

I am a question, someone you don’t really know
I am an island, a place that you know you can go

Simple love
Simple love

Are we seeds or are we still
Are we growing, do we kill the thrill

I am a question, someone you don’t really know
I am an island, a place that you know you can go

Are we fire or are we ice
Are we here or just lost in the night

I am a question, someone you don’t really know
I am an island, a place that you know you can go

Simple love

Fun Facts:

  • Simple Love is a song in the key of G, mostly major, and sometimes slipping into minor.
  • Most of the synth parts were played by a Yamaha TG33.
  • It is part of a small group of songs that include Last Train to Heaven and Golden Eye from the Rage in Heaven album, White Bird on Ivory from Ghost of the Art, and Cover Up from Can of Worms.
  • It first came to life when Jeff created the sequencer parts to Pete’s vocals whilst George was attempting unsuccessfully to help his girlfriend of the day overcome her alcoholism.
  • There is a certain ring to the lyrics of this song that suggest they are about helping George, or his girlfriend, or encouraging Jeff not to desert the Dark Company ship as well as George, or possibly all, or even none, of the above.
  • The five songs mentioned above were all created around the same bank of sounds on the Yamaha TG33.
  • It was some time later that George created all the guitar parts.
  • It was a favourite when performed live on acoustic guitar and fiddle by Dr Watson in Prague.
