SINNER

Sinner by Dark Company, from the album Can of Worms.

SINNER
You can’t miss the finger pointing
Lightning sign of stormy grief
Climb the pathway while you’re sleeping
I will wake you when we’re there

Reach out from your inside island
Join up in the busy street
On the sidewalk ready waiting
There are no more choices here

Window on another world
Aeroplane’s sky writing curl
The child, the Fool of Wisdom’s view
The Pilot’s eyes he’s looking through
At me, at you

Window on another world
Aeroplane’s sky writing curl
The child, the Fool of Wisdom’s view
The Pilot’s eyes he’s looking through
At me, at you

When you speak leave your echoes
By the door you can’t get through
Hang on to the shaky shadows
Time will be when Worry’s gone

There’s a lesson and a law
For the guards of Heaven’s sky
With a flame burning brightly
They will lead you to the door

Window on another world
Aeroplane’s sky writing curl
The child, the Fool of Wisdom’s view
The Pilot’s eyes he’s looking through
At me, at you

Window on another world
Aeroplane’s sky writing curl
The child, the Fool of Wisdom’s view
The Pilot’s eyes he’s looking through
At me, at you

Fun Facts:

  • Pete wrote the lyrics for this song during the earliest days of Alien Heat.
  • Alien Heat never attempted to take the song anywhere.”
  • George wrote all of the music during the early days of Dark Company’s first incarnation.
  • George was not too sure how the arrangement should go, so Pete finalised the order of all the different sections with great skill and finesse.
  • Rowena attempted to play saxophone on the track, and whilst doing so realised she didn’t particularly want to play music any more at all.
  • Perhaps that was the moment she realised the amount of work involved with a band in making a set of songs from nothing.
  • It was a weird moment.
  • She quit the band with immediate effect and thereafter described herself as an ‘ex-musician’.
  • Pete didn’t particularly like this song when we came to record it, and persuading him to do so was not easy.
  • He described the song as ‘tweedily’, until the guide bass and drums were added, at which point he seemed to dislike it a bit less.
  • We’ve always liked the lyrics for this song, which is in C#m.
  • It once had a chorus, but nobody felt the lyrics were appropriate for the rest of the song, so they were dropped.
