WE ALL LIGHT UP

We All Light Up by Dark Company, from the album Can of Worms.

WE ALL LIGHT UP
So what do we get for our troubles
What do we get for our pains
Tell me is the brightest colour
Any better than the glisten of rain
Are big shiny cars so important
That the world must roll on in chains

We all light up, we all light up
And we all lie down, we all lie down
We all light up, we all light up
And we all lie down, we all lie down

Are we much better with money
With more are we kinder inside
Tell me is the smoke of the city
Any sweeter than the dreams that you hide
Is reaching the top the last password
Or are you shaking the showers of pride

We all light up, we all light up
And we all lie down, we all lie down
We all light up, we all light up
And we all lie down, we all lie down

We all light up, we all light up
And we all lie down, we all lie down
We all light up, we all light up
And we all lie down, we all lie down

We all light up, we all light up
And we all lie down, we all lie down
We all light up, we all light up
And we all lie down, we all lie down

Fun Facts:

  • The lyrics for this were written by Pete after Alien Heat had folded.
  • Pete was trying to do some music with Alien Heat’s keyboard player Richard in a short-lived musical outfit called Hot Machine and the Silicone Dream.
  • Pete wanted to make an album called Artists and Gangsters, as he believed those are the people most responsible for changes in society.
  • Unfortunately, the music didn’t go far due to Pete becoming too exasperated with Richard’s antics.
  • Soon after, Dark Company was born.
  • Richard never did much in the way of adding music to these lyrics.
  • Instead, Pete took the lyrics and vocal melody and jammed We All Light Up with George.
  • He played some filthy dirty guitar in DADGAD tuning to create something that was completely unlike what HMatSD had begun.
  • George came up with the vocal harmonies that Pete sang.
  • This might be the most heavy metal song that Dark Company ever made, but we’re not absolutely sure.
