VENTURI

Venturi by Dark Company, from the album Mind Dance.

VENTURI
Haunted by the gypsy tug
That takes fat ships in tow
Crossed by wire
The fence grows higher
Stopped where I cannot go
Caught outside in sunset’s light
Where insects bite and twist
The walking dead
Now feed my head
With creatures of the blitz

Freedom for the broken toys
Lying by the road
Freedom from the aching lies
That say tomorrow knows
Freedom for the broken toys
Lying by the road
Freedom from the aching lies
That say tomorrow knows
That say tomorrow knows
That say tomorrow knows
That say tomorrow knows
That say tomorrow knows

Chained am I to an acid dream
Love’s labour can’t be found
The joke’s on me
Now can’t you see
I’m falling to the ground
Souls of old time working gods
And angels of the sky
Come not on
Nor walk upon
My mind’s sweet inner eye

Freedom for the broken toys
Lying by the road
Freedom from the aching lies
That say tomorrow knows
Freedom for the broken toys
Lying by the road
Freedom from the aching lies
That say tomorrow knows
That say tomorrow knows
That say tomorrow knows
That say tomorrow knows
That say tomorrow knows

Freedom for the broken toys
Lying by the road
Freedom from the aching lies
That say tomorrow knows
Freedom for the broken toys
Lying by the road
Freedom from the aching lies
That say tomorrow knows
That say tomorrow knows
That say tomorrow knows
That say tomorrow knows
They say tomorrow knows

That say tomorrow knows
That say tomorrow knows
That say tomorrow knows

They say tomorrow knows…

Recorded, engineered, mixed and produced at Wud Records Studio One 2015.

Performers:

PJ Speed – vocals
Zak Black – guitars
Maxx Damage – bass
Sven Stiglund – drums

Fun Facts:

  • Of all the songs that Dark Company ever recorded, Venturi has the largest amount of vocal parts in order to build the choir.
  • We always loved the lyrics for this track and believe them to be some real classics of Pete’s.
  • It was written at around the same time as Damaged from the Benign Inquisition album.
  • As Damaged was far more complicated in terms of melody, Pete never took it on when the Mind Dance album was being put together.
  • The demo version features a lot of late-night stereo speaker guitar feedback that George created round at Pete’s house one evening.
  • Venturi is in the key of Dm (the saddest of all keys) and has a wistful, melancholic feel.
