SECOND SIGHT

Second Sight by Dark Company
Album: Signmaker

SECOND SIGHT
Suicide swords of Samurai awarded for mistakes
Give blessed absolution if you’ve got what it takes
Certain kinds of solitude with memories are fused
Valleys filled with shadows will dream up an excuse

He’s a charismatic man
He’s a Judas in a can
He’s a pocket-prophet poppet
With dreams made out of sand

Jagged edge of jealousy, green-eyed prize of hate
Grants a spiky shelter that mustn’t go to waste
And the weapons of the warriors, priceless with their pain
Make cutting out a heart an easy change of game

He’s a charismatic man
He’s a Judas in a can
He’s a pocket-prophet poppet
With dreams made out of sand

Charismatic man, Judas in a can
Charismatic man, Judas in a can

The labours of great Hercules weigh down many books
Blindness to their meaning is no excuse not to look
In ancient days a shaman made a watch out of the sun
These days more important that he knows how to use a gun

He’s a charismatic man
He’s a Judas in a can
He’s a pocket-prophet poppet
With dreams made out of sand

Fun Facts:
* The lyrics for this song were written in September 1991.
* The key is C minor and the tempo is 116 BPM.
* This song was the second song that Dark Company finished recording.
* Second Sight received highly positive acclaim from the Guild of International Songwriters and Composers.
* Due to unfamiliarity with the gear, the DBX on the TSR-8 was switched off for the recording, causing a most horrendous amount of hiss.
* The red LED meant the DBX was ‘off’, not ‘on’.
* This was later fixed with cunning use of gates and aural exciters.
* The original guitar solo had a minim, a longer note, at the end of each phrase.
* Pete and Rowena however preferred it to be full on.
* Outvoted, George re-recorded it without the longer notes to end each phrase.
* It was during the recording of this song that we discovered how unreliable the timekeeping of the EDP Wasp’s random sample hold function was.
* Killer was the first single released by Dark Company from the Signmaker album.
* It was backed with Second Sight and the digital remix of Killer.
