FUN FACTS
* She’s Beautiful is one of Pok’s very oldest songs.
* He composed it when still at school.
* It was inspired by Pok seeing a girl he knew and admired as she walked past, whilst he was waiting for a bus at exeter bus station.
* The tempo varies between 66 and 122 BPM and the key is A major.
* The rhythm guitar parts are both played using Marsha, which had new strings.
* The Ice Maiden, which Fedax would have played, was in need of attention on the day.
* Pok is on the right channel and Fedax the left.
* Pok’s lead guitar is played on Nicodemus.
* Just before the “Magnet thighs and peacocks’ eyes” verse, Fedax takes an eight-bar solo on the Ice Maiden.
* This solo was based on his little solo in the Cander version.
* The part Pok stipulated for the bass is rather wonderful and not a particularly obvious line, as it effectively makes a C major chord with an F# root.
* This entire version of She’s Beautiful is very much based upon the Laughing Sun version from Cander, which is regarded as the definitive version.
* The ending section of the Cander version was completely unplanned, improvised and an inspired moment of sublime delight.
* Pok and his friends managed to replicate it with a few tweaks for this recording.
* The earliest versions of She’s Beautiful go all the way back to Now in 1982.
* It was also performed by Fooog Dinboffin and the Release, and the Spacegoats during their brief ‘Electric Elves’ phase.
* She’s Beautiful was a song in the works for Alchemeon’s set, but never made it to a recording before they disbanded.
