SAME OLD ROAD AGAIN

SAME OLD ROAD AGAIN
Now I know it’s hard
The struggle and pain
You just get up on your feet
And you’re in trouble again
Now I know it’s hard
You don’t have to tell me
But when you say: “Let’s play it again!”
Just what do you mean?
There’s that look in your eyes
I think you’re telling me lies

And we’re walking back down that same old road again
We will come to the same old end
The time has come to be moving on
It’s safe to say that it’s over and done

Nothing is easy
Nothing in this world
Should make us change our minds
And get together again
We made a good sound
Ideas were found
But it seems we all move
In different ways
Look into the eyes
Deceitfully wise

And we’re walking back down that same old road again
We will come to the same old end
The time has come to be moving on
It’s safe to say that it’s over and done

And we’re walking back down that same old road again
We will come to the same old end
The time has come to be moving on
It’s safe to say that it’s over and done

Lyrics by George Davies.
Music by George Davies.
Recorded at The Riverside Nightclub and 32 Howell Road, Exeter by Paul Bateman and George Davies, Summer 1987.
Remastered at Wud Records Studios 2010.

Performers:

Andy Richardson – vocals
George Davies – guitars
Jerry Peirce – bass
Danny Bouget – drums, percussion

Facts:

  • This used to be Rough Terrain’s set opener. Sometimes they would play it immediately after their cover of Born to be Wild, joining the two songs together.
  • Jerry’s bassline is mostly just the low-E on his bass, something many bassists would struggle to maintain without Jerry’s discipline.
  • George wrote this on 17th May 1986 after feeling somewhat disgruntled with the demise of a previous fledgling band, The Masters of Drone.
