Shake Yer Brother

Shake Yer Brother
Taking time as it comes
You ain’t taking it on the run
There’s sure to be friends
You’ve gotta take care until the end
Too many freak-outs to be reconciled
So calm the inner voices of your mind
Remember the trust of a child

Shake yer brother shake yer sister
Shake yer brother shake yer sister
Shake yer brother shake yer sister
Shake yer brother shake yer sister

What could be better than the love of your friends
What could be better than the love of your friends
What could be better than the love of your friends
What could be better than the love of your friends

Shake yer brother shake yer sister
Shake yer brother shake yer sister
Shake yer brother shake yer sister
Shake yer brother shake yer sister

All of us are each other
So please don’t hurt me brother
Put some peace into this world
Be careful with your mind
Let’s stick together now and forever
Throughout these empty nights
We’ll be together to defend our rights
Look up into the light

Shake yer brother shake yer sister
Shake yer brother shake yer sister
Shake yer brother shake yer sister
Shake yer brother shake yer sister

Facts:

  • During the last days of Dark Company’s second incarnation there was a part-written song called Mustn’t But Must which was never finished and the guitar part from that song became the guitar part for this song instead.
  • The first lyrics were the ‘Shake yer brother’ lines which George wrote. Dave wrote all the rest of the words apart from the ‘What could be better’ lines that again George wrote.
  • This song is in Am and has a 6/8 feel.
  • Sometimes The Ug Brothers would use the ending of this song to break down into feedback and noise to start off The Ug Song, instead of using Spin Gone Crazy to break down into feedback and noise to start off The Ug Song.
  • The vocal harmonies and ‘Ooooo’ sections were all created by Natalie.
  • ‘Look up into the light’ refers to the Sephirah Kether from the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, implying a raising one’s spiritual consciousness.
