Take Me Up

Take Me Up
Was that a smile in your eyes
I think I saw it while you were talking
So let’s get down to feeling good
Come on man that’s real good

Take me up to
Take me up to the place I love
Take me up to
Take me up to the place I

Night life laser lights any time anywhere
How’s it going put it there
We’ll be dancing in the air
Wide eyed wolf-like sometimes starry-eyed
Looking out to hit looking out to hide
Searching for a thing that we ain’t tried

There are things that take you up
There are things that bring you down
And there are things that get you high
It’s right here in the sound

Take me up to
Take me up to the place I love
Take me up to
Take me up to the place I

Night life laser lights any time anywhere
How’s it going put it there
We’ll be dancing in the air
Wide eyed wolf-like sometimes starry-eyed
Looking out to hit looking out to hide
Searching for a thing that we ain’t tried

Take me up to
Take me up to the place I love
Take me up to
Take me up to the place I love
Take me up to
Take me up to the place I love
Take me up to
Take me up to the place

I don’t wanna feel sad
Don’t wanna feel bad
Just wanna have some fun
Just wanna see you come
To the show

I know this is the one for me
I know this is the one for me
I know this is the one for me
I know this is the one for me

The light shines on
The light shines on
The light shines on
The light shines on

Words by Dave Danielli/Graham Barbe/George Davies.
Music by George Davies/Dave Danielli/Graham Barbe/Helen Skuse.
Recorded and produced by George Davies at Wud Records Studio Three, Fore Street, Exeter in Spring 1995.

Performers:

Natalie Board – vocals
George Davies – guitar, vocals
Dave Danielli – bass, vocals
Graham Barbe – drums

Facts:

  • This song starts on the second beat of the bar and as such seems slightly confusing at first to some musicians.
  • It is in the key of Em and is something of a musical journey.
  • Graham would always refer to it as ‘That One!’
  • Most of this song came from George’s guitar and the vocal melody for the choruses came from Amble jamming along on the saxophone.
  • Dave wrote the most of the lyrics during the massive drive for lyrics that the band embarked upon one smoky afternoon. He also composed most of the song’s vocal melody.
  • George wrote the ‘Take me up’ and all the ‘I don’t wanna feel sad’ refrain, Graham wrote the spoken lyrics in the ‘Night life laser lights’ section and the rest of the words were created by Dave.
