INDIAN SUMMER

INDIAN SUMMER
Burning incense on the breeze
Floats out of your room
Falling down the corridors of yesterday
Feel it in the air
Maybe it’ll be coming your way

Carry me away
Indian summer
Carry me away
It’s been so long
Carry me away

Standing on the doorstep
Dancing round the room
Rainbow dancing showers on the lawn
Never thought at all
That it would ever fade away

Carry me away
Indian summer
Carry me away
It’s been so long
Carry me away

Passing places full of you
No longer seems to be
Too far behind, too far away to see
If I close my eyes
I can sometimes drift away

Carry me away
Indian summer
Carry me away
It’s been so long
Carry me away

Words by Ken Staple. Copyright (c) Explicit Music 1985.

Words by Ken Staple.
Music by George Davies, Ken Staple and Paul Kay.
Recorded and produced by Ian Dent at Daylight Recording Studios, Honiton, Spring 1985.

Performers:

Ken Staple – vocals
George Davies – guitar

Facts:

  • This version was the second or third take, fortunate really as Ken’s Flambeau acoustic had battleship chains for strings.
  • Paul wrote the guitar part at the start of the chorus and Ken wrote the vocal melody and scat singing at the end.
  • The rest of the music was composed by George.
  • During more foolish moments, some of the lyrics were changed. For example, “Burning insects on the breeze” and “It’s raining golden showers on the lawn” were often sung instead of the proper lyrics.
  • This song is about a lady from India who Ken knew in Richmond rather than warm weather in the autumn.
